Why Being Wrong is a Superpower for Growth and Leadership
The wonderful truth of being wrong!
We used to believe the Earth was flat - We all know the history behind this. We believed Space is empty - We now know it's filled with cosmic radiation, dark matter, and gravitational waves. We believed Women have fewer teeth than men - Aristotle claimed this, and no one bothered to count for centuries. We also believed Rail travel will cause insanity - 19th-century fears claimed high speeds would damage the human body. (Yes, really.)
History is full of confidently held beliefs that turned out to be gloriously, hilariously, or dangerously wrong. And yet - being wrong is not the problem. Staying wrong is.
Being wrong is how we learn. It's how we grow. It's how we move forward.
In operations, leadership, and life, we often chase certainty. We want to be right. We want to be seen as competent, decisive, informed. But what if the real strength lies in being open to being wrong?
When we admit we might be wrong:
- We invite new perspectives.
- We challenge assumptions.
- We unlock innovation.
- We build trust.
Curiosity doesn't kill the cat - it teaches it to climb new trees, explore new paths, and see the world from different branches.
So here's to the times you doubted yourself in being wrong. Here's to the moments we say, "I might be wrong." Because that's where the real learning begins.
